WTF PREMARKET REPORT – FRIDAY, AUGUST 1st, 2025
Welcome to August – the last month of summer and the first real test of this rally.
Yesterday was confetti.
Today? Tariffs.
Trump just went full executive-order mode, slapping tariffs on goods with a deadline pen stroke. Negotiations with Europe, Japan, and a few others are still in limbo, but the hammer fell.
Result: Nasdaq futures down about 1% premarket.
Jobs?
The headline number came in light at 73k.
But revisions for the past two months? Down. And unemployment is creeping up. Two Fed officials even broke ranks this week, warning that the job market might be weaker than expected.
Translation: Powell has another headache, and rate cut odds later this year just got juicier.
The market hates uncertainty. And this morning, we’ve got a double shot of it.

AMZN GUIDANCE SHOCK
Amazon’s earnings bombed out overnight with guidance that sucked the air out of the cloud. Result: AMZN down 9% premarket. That’s an anchor on tech sentiment and a slap in the face to anyone who thought July’s rally was bulletproof.
Narrative shift: This isn’t just a pullback; this is the rollover from Wednesday continuing.
JOBS REPORT: A CRACK IN THE ARMOR
73k new jobs (light)
Revisions: Negative
Unemployment: Ticking higher
Two Fed officials already said the labor market may be weaker than the surface shows. Today confirms it. The Fed suddenly has “permission” to pivot—just not yet.
Biggest premarket movers:
AMAZON DOWN -9% - Future guidance is shady
AAPL - UP 2% - Revenue Grew over 10%
RDDT - UP 14% - Continued gains... watch for the retracement
COIN - DOWN -9% - Missed expectation
August Market Cycles
Early August: Tariff and jobs noise = volatility.
Mid-August: Earnings season pivots the narrative.
Late August: Thin summer liquidity + back-to-school reallocation often trigger surprise spikes and rug pulls.

SWOT Snapshot for Friday, August 1st, 2025
Strengths:​ AI and tech momentum from July hasn’t vanished. Lower jobs numbers give the Fed an excuse to pivot if things worsen. Tariffs could be temporary leverage if deals get struck quickly.
Weaknesses:​ Tariffs are an instant tax on the system, and they’ve hit today. The rally is already stretched, so there’s little cushion. Labor cracks are starting to show.
Opportunities:​ If the market can hold this pullback, August sets up for dip-buys and sector rotation. Defensive names, energy, and selective retail could come alive as hedges. Earnings are a battlefield—misses will get punished, but beats could rocket.
Threats:​ Prolonged tariffs and weak global growth could pull August into a correction. Seasonality: August is historically choppier than July—don’t expect the same easy money flow.
