WTF PREMARKET REPORT – Thursday, JULY 31, 2025
Welcome to the last trading day of July—the fireworks aren’t over.
Microsoft and Meta just tossed gasoline on the AI bonfire: both crushed earnings and raised guidance for cloud and AI growth. That was the starter pistol.
Futures? Exploding!
Earnings are the biggest day of the year!
Biggest premarket rockets:
RBLX up 20%
CVNA up 16%
CRWD and META up 11% each
MSFT hitting the $4Trillion dollar club up 8%
We’re staring at all-time highs, one day before the tariff deadline, and traders are asking: Can August keep this rocket fueled?
Macro Backdrop – Yesterday vs. Today
GDP (yesterday): Came in stronger than expected. The U.S. economy refuses to slow down, no matter how many times the Fed taps the brakes.
PCE (this morning): In line but shows inflation ticking up slightly. Not a runaway fire, but not cooling fast enough for the doves.
Unemployment Claims: Still in range—steady labor market, no cracks yet.
This mix = strong economy with a stubborn whiff of inflation. Translation? The Fed’s not cutting anytime soon, so don’t price in a bailout.
Tariffs, Tech, and August Ahead
A positive term sheet from U.S.–China talks is circulating. If it locks before tomorrow’s deadline, August opens with fresh rocket fuel. If not, brace for chop.
Tech is leading the cavalry. AI/cloud strength is so strong it’s papering over any macro headwinds.
Key Catalysts Today
China Tariff Talks: A positive “term sheet” is circulating—if it holds, it could push another leg higher.
No Fed Cuts in Sight: Powell is holding rates steady because the economy is still flexing. Watch PCE inflation data and jobs reports this week to confirm if that “no cut” stance is still justified.
Tech Leadership: Cloud, AI, and cybersecurity are running point.
SWOT Snapshot for Thursday, JULY 31, 2025
Strengths:​ Tech is carrying the rally like Atlas with a caffeine drip. Mega-cap earnings (MSFT, META) and innovation in AI/cloud are driving monster gaps. Positive whispers out of U.S.–China tariff talks are keeping sentiment hot. Market breadth improving with RBLX, CVNA, CRWD catching bids.
Weaknesses:​ The rally is narrow. A ton of fuel is concentrated in a few sectors. Fed’s refusal to cut could start to pinch multiples if inflation data doesn’t cooperate.
Opportunities:​ If the tariff deal gets signed, August could open with another breakout wave. Rotations into industrials, consumer, and financials could extend the rally beyond tech. This is the window to plan swing trades for August’s trend if confirmation sticks.
Threats:​ Tomorrow’s tariff deadline still looms. A misstep in talks = rug pull. Any hint of sticky inflation in upcoming data could crush rate cut hopes for Q4. August seasonality also tends to be volatile—don’t assume smooth skies.
