WTF PREMARKET REPORT – Thursday, AUGUST 14th, 2025

WTF is Happening This Morning?

Hot PPI just rang the inflation bell again, and it’s still swinging in the Fed’s face like a heavyweight uppercut. Yesterday’s fade left the market flatlined overnight, and Thursday — historically the “counter-trend day” of the week — is standing in the corner, gloves on, waiting for its shot.

The too-hot PPI makes the Fed’s job trickier. They now have to wait for the CPE print and the Jackson Hole meeting before making any decisive moves. Translation? Today’s just another round in the data dance — and the Fed’s still figuring out if it’s leading or following.

Premarket Movers You Need to Know:

• Li Auto (LI) – Down ~2% after JPMorgan downgraded to neutral. Reason? EV competition is looking more like a demolition derby.
• Tapestry (TPR) – Down over 10% on a weak full-year outlook. Their $5.30–$5.45 EPS guide is shy of analyst hopes. Luxury’s got a limp.
• Deere (DE) – Off ~6% after trimming the top end of its outlook. Farmer profits might be more drought than downpour this year.
• Ibotta (IBTA) – Tanked 34% after a revenue and EPS miss. Digital coupon clippers are feeling clipped.
• Coherent (COHR) – Down ~19% despite beating earnings. Selling aerospace/defense unit to Advent for $400M shaved $20M in revenue from forward guidance.
• Bullish (BLSH) – Up 14% premarket after an 83% pop on its IPO debut yesterday. Still riding the hype horse.
• Kratos Defense (KTOS) – Up ~3% after BTIG upgraded to buy. Positioned to cash in if defense budgets swell.
• DLocal (DLO) – Ripped 23% higher after strong earnings and HSBC upgrade on better cost control + new products.

Strengths:​
Resilient U.S. consumer spending and ongoing corporate earnings beats in select sectors are keeping the floor under this market, even when macro data throws a jab.

Weaknesses:​
Inflation surprises (like today’s PPI) keep blindsiding traders. Fed uncertainty plus thin summer liquidity makes breakouts suspect.

Opportunities:​
Counter-trend Thursdays historically give traders a window to play reversals — but only if you can separate signal from noise. Defense stocks and fintech winners are emerging rotation plays.

Threats:​
Jackson Hole is looming large. Any hawkish surprise could snap sentiment fast. Plus, geopolitical risks (China’s EV glut, commodity disruptions) are still waiting backstage with their scripts.
