WTF PREMARKET REPORT – Tuesday, AUGUST 12th, 2025
WTF is Happening Today?
Trump just kicked the China tariff can 90 days down the road—think of it as “delay and pray” diplomacy. CPI came in exactly in line, giving the market a sugar rush on the idea that a September rate cut is officially on the table. That’s not hopium—that’s plausible probability. Futures are mixed as traders digest earnings landmines, political pivots, and the growing scent of a dovish Fed.
Premarket Movers You Need to Know
Hanesbrands (+42%) – Ripping after reports of a near-$5B buyout by Gildan.
Gildan Activewear (-5%) – Down on the deal, because Wall Street hates when the buyer picks up the check.
Sinclair (+18%) – Strategic review on the table; mergers and spinoffs are the new media currency.
On Holding AG (+11%) – Swiss sneaker seller smashed Q2 expectations and hiked guidance.

Weaknesses – Earnings landmines (BigBear, Celanese) remind us demand in some sectors is still weak. Political whiplash from the White House creates headline risk every 12 hours.
Opportunities – Tariff extension gives China-linked names breathing room. Rate cut probability opens the door for rotation back into high-beta growth and small caps.
