TUESDAY TENSION — TARIFFS EASE, TECH WAKES BACK UP
It’s Tactical Tuesday, and the market’s staging a mini mood swing.
Futures are inching higher this morning, attempting to claw back from last week’s bearish engulfing body blow. Monday’s low-volume melt-up gave us a window into what’s possible when fear eases — and today’s whispers of progress on Canada and China tariff negotiations just cracked that window wider.
The 10-year yield is holding below 4.2%, and with no major economic reports today, the Fed whisper machine is still focused on last week’s downward job revisions.
Earnings catalysts are alive and kicking:
Palantir (PLTR) beat and is guiding strong — the AI arms dealer is back.
Rivian (RIVN) delivered a production beat and raised guidance.
Wayfair (W) continued its victory lap from Monday with a double-digit move.
DIS and SHOP are on deck for Wednesday — and they could be the next domino in the “consumer comeback” thesis.
Meanwhile, oil continues to drift lower, putting downward pressure on inflation expectations. This backdrop makes selective long entries on retracements attractive — if you’re surgical.
Today is not a day to chase. It’s a day to trade the turn.
TUESDAY SWOT ANALYSIS:
STRENGTHS: Individual stock momentum is back. RIVN and PLTR are waking up retail and institutional buyers. The 10-year is holding the dip. The market is not falling apart post-jobs — showing resilience. Oil down is inflation friendly.
WEAKNESSES: Last week’s bearish technical structure is still intact — we’re in bounce mode, not breakout. Low volume continues to plague conviction trades. Tariff talks could reverse if headlines shift.
OPPORTUNITIES: If DIS or SHOP surprise to the upside tomorrow, the consumer growth trade gets legs. Palantir and Rivian strength may kick off a sympathy run in AI and EV names. Super Six sector rotation is still forming — watch SMH, IWM, and XLY for clues.
THREATS: Any CPI leak, jobless print, or geopolitical twist could flip this light volume rally on its head. August is a known trap month — complacency is the enemy.
